Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
